Now, there are 2 ways to develop flash games.

One is for artists, use the flash mx soft (expensive).
The other is for programmers, use flex builder (not free) or flex sdk (free).

But to make a polished game, if often needs both artists and programmers.-----------------

i am an artist and programmer ...
into programming art ... as in POVray.
    http://www.povray.org/

so i have some experience with programming ... the old amiga
and some VBasic. have not worked much with C++ ...
which i understand is similar to actionscript ...
but i am capable of learning. ;)

    and being cheap ...
as well as focused on the ole hacker ideal of sharing info/code ...
i tend to support those groups of folks who like to share their
    programming skills.
    like POVray ...
so will check out the flex sdk.

what else do i need to start?
    thanks.

    POVray is cool soft.

Actionscript is more similar with javascript and java.
But in fact, all popular language are similar.

You know VBasic, that is good, not very different with action script.
You should find a book about action script first.

Then if you are willing, it is best have some knowledge of ant, a build system need java to run it, and svn or verison control system.
And find a favorited source editor. That is all.-----------------

    ant: http://ant.apache.org/bindownload.cg...
svn: http://subversion.tigris.org/ , if you use windows, you can use tortoiseSVN instead, http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/

flex sdk: http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/f... , If you have money, you can buy flex builder. it is more powerful.-----------------

    I don't read much.

"ActionScript 3.0 Cookbook" and "Essential ActionScript 3.0" seem very basic and good.

But please notice, actionscript 4 will be out in one or 2 years. There will be more features in it.-----------------
