    The Color Infection Logo and Graphic Design Contest
    I noted the forums being a little quiet lately, so I decided to bring up to top the spirit of the forum again and start a logo contest!
    The objective in this contest will not be to decide who did the best logo or who is the best graphics maker; on the contrary, the goal is to get all of the members working togheter, improving each other's idea, adding a little of this and that to other poeple's logos...
    Well... you get the idea. But of course, hopefully a good logo will arise from this 'competiton' and be chosen as the oficial Color Infection Logo.
    So, I will enounce the rules and characteristics of this contest:

    Rules and Objectives of the Contest.
    1 - Every image you post in this forums is considered and open source image; this means that every other member will have the right of editing and improving the same.
    2 - If you use another person's image to create your own, you must give credit to the person you took the image from. If the image you make wins, then the credit will belong to both members.
    3 - Since the goal is to work in group, everybody that participates in the contest (even if the image somebody made is completely unrelated to the winner one) will get credit for the creation of the final logo. But to keep things interesting, there will be a prize for the first, second and third places. This prizes will be chosen by an impartail jury, which will be selected at the end of the contest. The jury may be formed by more than one person, and every member of the same must be a trustable person who didn't make an entry for the contest.
    4 - You may post as much entries as you like, but all of them must not violate any of the rules listed in the Logo and Graphics Characterisitcs section.

    Logo /Graphic Designs Characteristics

    Your logo or graphic design may have different characterstics, depending on the type of image you decide to make. We will now enlist the different types of logos and the characteristics each one must have.

    *Logo/Conventional Design (Obligatory):
    You must make a logo/conventional design first before making anything else. This design can be of any size you like, but it's recomendable to make it big... if you can, make it of at least 900 pixels width 300 pixels high... at least. This logo can be of any type you want: it can be a "logo" by definition, this is, a rather simple, easy to reproduce design, or an artistic design, with lots of details and lighting effects. But it's recomendable not to fill it up with tons of little details.
    And, the logo must have the words Color Infection included somewhere in your design.

    *Small Design (Optional):
    A smaller version of your design. Must measure no more than 150 x 150 pixels, and no less than 100x100 px. Think of it to be used as an avatar.

    *Icon (Optional):
    An even smaller version of your design. Only possible size: 32x32 pixels!

    *Banner (Optional):
    Think of it as to be used for a banner on top of a forum. Width: From 1000 to 3000 pixels. Height: from 100 to 250 pixels. Make sure that the width:height ratio is not too low, or in other words, make sure that it's has pretty more width than height.

    *Animation (Optional):
    You can even make an animation with your logo! However, this animation must not measure more than 500 pixels wide and 150 pixels high (could be of the same size as a Small Image or an Icon), and must not last for too long (5 seconds at most). The animation should be preferably a continous loop (the last frame must match the first frame).

    Tridimentional Design (Optional):
    If you really worked hard on your logo and even made a tridimentional deisgn out of it, you can share it too!
    Put a downloadable link of your design in a new comment.

    Others (Optional):
    If you can think of any other type of image you can make related to Color Infection, please share it with us!
    ------------------

    Now, there are a couple of things more to mention:

    *Try to keep your designs in your computer as a backup.
    *The more types of image you make, and the more material you give us, the more chances you have to win the contest!
    *Do not be afraid to post your designs, not matter how ugly they look! Remember that the spirit of the contest is to improve each others idea and work in group, not to see who is the best designer! After all, you can always make more entries.

    And finally, I will say that every entry must be inside a spoiler if it is a Small Image or an Icon, otherwise you must post only the link to the image itself (well, if it's a conventional design and you consider it's not too big, you can post it directly in the forums if you want).

    I will shortly enlist some useful programs you can use to make your designs.

    PS:
    Due to some problems that Tapir has experienced with the imageshack service, please do not use imageshack to store your images.
    There are many other image hosting webs you can use, like imgur: http://imgur.com/-----------------

    Ok, here's something simple to start with.
    Please give suggestions.
    Do you think the color is right? Because my screen seems to look lighter than other people's screen...
    What changes would you do to it?
    Would you fill up that white space on the upper right corner? (Do it if you can...)
    Or perhaps you would just shorten that annoying arrow?
    Do you like the shiny bevel effect or would you go for a simpler one?
    Or perhaps with no bevel at all...
    Feel free to edit it and change whatever you want!
    If anybody needs the psd file, tell me and I'll put a download link for it.

    (url)

    This image was made using the Photoshop CS4 software by Adobe.
    But if you wanna get Photoshop, you'd probably want to try out the new CS5 version:
    http://www.adobe.com/es/products/pho...
    Anyway, I'm afraid you've gotta pay for it if you wanna use it...
    There are some good free graphic design programs, I've used a lot of them before getting phostoshop.
    I just can't recall how were they called...
    But well - If you think you have an idea but not a good program to transform it in an image - even a simple program like Paint will do!
    After all, the idea is what counts, not only the image itself...-----------------

    PS. Blender is a free 3D modelling program.-----------------

    Hi, MCC, this is a great idea. I love this contest.
    The forum will be upgraded to vanilla 2.0 soon,
    and a good Color Infection Logo will make the forum more professional.

    btw, I feel the current forum categories are not enough now.
    I plan to add more:
    - Graphics Art
    - Cultural Communication

    What others do you want to add?-----------------

    Truly amazing!
    Very good work.
    Firemil, your idea is quite cool!
    I believe that with a couple of retouches it could become a good logo.
    The trailer is very good too.
    And Jouwee, your idea for the logo is outstanding!
    I loved the "C" combined with the "I" idea...
    It's a truly excellent logo.
    And that trailer-like animation is very attractive!
    Not to mention that 3d image...
    Which program did you use to make it?
    It's unbelievable!
    I have another idea for the logo...
    But I don't like it very much.
    Anyway... here it is.
    I just thought I'd go for something simpler and more elegant...
    Not sure I got it quite right.

    And madball, your idea is cool too!
    It's quite well drawn considering you drew it with paint.
    I think I'm gonna have to improve this logo I made...
    I don't like the font.
    Perhaps I'll use another font, something more fancy, and edit this comment.
    Then I'll see if I can make a 3d logo out of it using povray.-----------------

    Very nice William!
    Simple, elegant and stylish.
    I've always admired how well organized and tidy all of your levels are, with good combinations of colors like light grey and black.
    I can see a lot of that in your logo.
    In fact, I liked it so much, that I've made a 3d version out of it!

    (url)

    This image was not made with 3d studio, blender nor maya...
    but with a little interesting program called povray, which has a fun fact...
    It doesn't work like all of the other mentioned programs...
    It works entirely using programming code.
    The program is free and you can download it from here:
    http://www.povray.org/
    As a little example code I will post the code I used for creating the image in the spoiler.
    Only for programming lovers.

    #include "colors.inc"
    global_settings{assumed_gamma 0.8}

    //Camera Settings
    camera{location <11,5,-18>
    look_at <3,2,0>}

    //Light Sources
    light_source{ <0,5,-10> color White }

    //Sky
    plane{<0,1,0>,1 hollow
    texture{
    pigment{ bozo turbulence 1.5
    color_map {
    [0.00 rgb <0.2, 0.3, 1>*0.5]
    [0.50 rgb <0.2, 0.3, 1>*0.8]
    [0.70 rgb <1,1,1>]
    [0.85 rgb <0.5,0.5,0.5>]
    [1.0 rgb <0.9,0.9,0.9>]}
    scale<1,1,1.5>*5
    translate<1.0,0,-1>
    }
    finish {ambient 1 diffuse 0}
    }
    scale 10000
    }
    fog{distance 300000 color White}

    //Ground
    plane{y,-1 pigment {checker White Grey}}

    //Macro for creating the text
    #macro sphereLogo (the_text)
    #declare A = 1;
    #while (A < strlen(the_text) + 1)
    #declare letter = strupr(substr(the_text,A,1))
    #if (strcmp (letter, "I") = 0)
    #declare IOffset = 0.125;
    #else
    #declare IOffset = 0.325;
    #end
    #declare xPos = A*1.8 - 1 - strlen(the_text)/2*1.8;
    union{
    sphere {<0,0,0> 0.8 pigment {Grey} finish{specular 0.5 phong 0.8}}
    intersection{
    text{ ttf "cyrvetic.ttf" letter 0.5, 0 pigment{Black} finish{specular 0.1} translate -1*z -0.35*y -IOffset*x
    }
    sphere {<0,0,0> 0.9 pigment {Black} finish{specular 0.1}}
    }
    cylinder{<0,0,-0.1>,<0,0,0.1> 0.9 pigment{Gray10}}
    translate <xPos,0,0>
    }
    #declare A = A + 1;
    #end
    #end

    //Calling the Macro
    sphereLogo ("Color Infection")

    And yes, you guessed right.
    If you change the text in the parenthesis after "sphereLogo" you can write your own name or anything you want in William's sphere logo style!
    Go ahead and try it. If you have nothing better to do...
    But, I warn you, the borders will look a little jaggy.
    For my image I used an antialiasing effect that reduces the jaggy look of the borders, but explaining how would be way off-topic.
    There are lots of tutorials on the web for learning how to use povray, plus a lot of example scenes that comes with the program itself.

    And Madball, that was a good improvement for your logo!
    It looks much more tidy now.-----------------

    @Tapir
    How about a category for riddles, logic puzzles, brain teasers and that sort of stuff?
    Since Color Infection was originally a puzzle game I think it would be a good idea to have a category for those who comes here looking for puzzles and logic games.
    And, now that the editor has it's own programming language, members interested in programming may appear in the forum.
    Perhaps it would be interesting to have a "Programming" category for them.

    The Graphics Art category sounds very interesting...
    And I really like the Cultural Communication one!
    Can't think of any other one now...-----------------

    There is already a puzzle category.
    And there is also a "Programming" category already. :)

    I plan to change the 1.50 category to Advanced Design category.
    I will add the Graphics Art and category soon.

    Maybe we need a Life category?-----------------

    Sounds cool.
    I love to see how the forum goes improving and expanding...
    Now our community, who was joined together by the Color Infection game, will have more things to chat about...
    Amazing.
    I'm changing this discussion to the Graphics Design category, and perhaps I'll start a new discussion in thie same category soon.
    Ah, Tapir...
    You're doing an excellent job with both the editor and forum.
    I feel so honored for being a member of this community! :)-----------------

    Far too cool, griz!
    It's an amazing logo.
    At first I didn't quite get how did you managed to make it...
    There's a green-white checkered plane behind the camera, right?
    Or you used another technique?
    Anyway, it's a great work.
    I see the "C-I" combo appearing in most logos.
    Perhaps that's one characteristic the main logo must have.
